A runner’s guide to pre- and post-workout skincare

Running has a myriad of health benefits. Not only can it add years to your life, it helps to  and reduce stress. And when it comes to your skin, sweating can also help to flush out toxins and give it a natural, healthy glow.

At the same time, though, if sweat is left on the skin for too long, it can mix with bacteria, dirt and oil, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. The salt in sweat can also dry and irritate, especially sensitive skin.

It goes without saying that a proper pre- and post-workout skincare routine is crucial for avoiding acne or flaring other skin conditions. Below, Dr Intkhab Raja, a UK qualified aesthetic doctor and GP at Derma Aesthetics London, talks us through the ins and outs of skincare for runners.
